The Annex

MUMBUS | The Annex

Mumbus hit the stage like a weight dropping — no warning, no buildup, just raw impact. Their sound was thick and unrelenting, a wall of distortion wrapped around deep, guttural rhythm. Every moment felt carved from concrete: dense, deliberate, and heavy in more than just volume.

But underneath the noise was structure — riffs that moved with purpose, shifts that kept you off balance. There was a sense of control inside the chaos, like a storm that knew exactly where it was going.

Photographing them meant leaning into the grit — catching the sweat, the shadows, the stillness between each blow. Dark, loud, and unapologetically grounded.

Dan

I don’t shoot from the safety of the barricade. I’m in the pit usually getting shoved, capturing metal and alternative shows exactly as they’re experienced.

Under Dark Studio Films, I document the Wisconsin scene without the polished, “pretty” edits. No posing, no staged lighting, just the raw, unfiltered chaos of a live set. Most concert photography feels too clean; I’m looking for the moments that actually stick—the sweat, the feedback, and the real energy that hits and stays with you.

This is heavy music photography for artists who don’t do “polished.”
